PURPOSE:To realize a fast, full-color type printing head of low-cost, subminiature constitution with improved gradation reproducibility by connecting a conversion chip which has a photosensor array, signal pulse width converting means, and driving means on the same semiconductor chip electrically with a substrate on which a multiprinting means capable of direct dot gradation modulation is mounted. CONSTITUTION:The printing system capable of direct dot gradation modulation is made to correspond to a light image input part one to one at dot level, this head is constituted extremely simply including gamma corrections, and the conversion chip 10 is mounted on the substrate 11 mounting the array 12 of the printing means with the face down across a contact pad 14. A signal 32 generated by a photosensor 20 is compared with the output 31 of the generation part 13 for the comparison signal, etc., by a comparator 21, which sends an output 34 to open a gate 27 by its pulse width, so a clock is passed through it and converted into a pulse train 35. Therefore, the number of pulses is modulated with the level of the output 32 of the photosensor 20. Thus, the multiprinting means is driven by a driver 23.
