PURPOSE:To enable the surface of the following medium to always be kept in mirror form even when it is inferior in chemical durability by a method wherein a slabform solid-state laser medium is closed in a container transparent at least in the parts corresponding to both end surfaces and both side surfaces. CONSTITUTION:Flash lamps 12 and 12' as the light source for excitation are arranged in lamp houses 11 and 11' respectively, and the coolant for the flash lamps 12 and 12' flows through preferably many inlets 13 and 13' and outlets 14 and 14' provided on both sides right and left of the lamp houses 11 and 11'. When light is pumped by the flash lamps 12 and 12', a laser beam oscillates by excitation of laser oscillation ions in the laser medium 1. However, since the internal space of the container closing the medium 1 is filled with not water but an inert gas or a liquid which does not corrode glass as the coolant 8, the surface of the laser medium 1 is kept stable and kept in mirror form for a long period. |
