A grating cylinder, in particular for grating potatoes, has axial grooves (2) in its circumference, in which grooves grating wires (4), projecting from the circumference of the cylinder, are anchored. The grating wires (4) are mounted on an attachment wire (5) which extends along the groove (2), and the unit consisting of the grating wires (4) and the attachment wire (5) is retained in the groove by means of strips (6, 7) which can be inserted in the groove (2) from the end wall of the cylinder. One strip (7) lies directly on the circumference of the cylinder and has on one side a comb (9) which engages radially non-displaceably with a recess (3) in one groove wall (11). The other side of the strip (7) bounds a gap with the other groove wall (10), through which gap the grating wires (4) extend. Mounted below said strip (7) is at least one further strip (6), against whose side facing the base of the groove the attachment wire (5) and the ends of the grating wires attached thereto are pressed during rotation of the cylinder (1). The latter-mentioned strip (6) can easily be exchanged for other strips with a different radial dimension, such that the anchoring depth of the grating wires (4) in the groove (2) can be adjusted by means of said second strip (6) for adaptation to the wear of the wires (4). <IMAGE>
