There is provided an improved pacemaker for controlling tachycardia. Prior-art pacemakers of this kind generate in a short time, known as the initial delay, a stimulation after confirmation of the tachycardia. The initial delay is "scanned" from one extreme value to the next until the tachycardic state has stopped. In a few pacemakers of this kind a second stimulation is generated at a fixed point in time, which is known as the "coupled interval", after the first stimulation, the second stimulation occasionally terminating the tachycardic state even if the first stimulation has not done so. In the pacemaker according to the invention both the coupled interval and the initial delay are scanned. Furthermore, the parameters for successful termination of the tachycardic state are stored, so that on renewed occurrence of the tachycardia the previously successful time parameters are now the first ones to be tried out. The unit also permits the doctor to induce tachycardia, so that the programmable parameters can be optimally adjusted for confirmation of any tachycardia which may subsequently occur naturally. |
