During manufacture of a rotor tube the fibers are wrapped in the longitudinal direction and on the outer circumference, in a circumferential direction and the rotor tube is then cured under tension. The wrapped rotor is cured with the rotor tube being radially expanded such that in the idle state of the rotor, the circumferentially wrapped fibers will exert a tangential compressive load on the matrix. As a result, cracking of the matrix in longitudinally oriented fibers will not occur until at substantially higher speeds.
