PURPOSE:To raise the usability of an electronic instrument by varying the starting time of repeating actions according to the kinds of keys by a method in which a means to discriminate the kinds of the keys pushed and a means to set up the starting time of repeating actions are provided. CONSTITUTION:In an electronic instrument with a key board, when a switch to respond to the push of keys is closed, a signal 30 is sent out from a multiplexer 5 to stop the counting action of a counter 3. The kinds of keys to be pushed down are discriminated by the count values of the counter 3. When keys to be operated repeatedly are judged on the contents of the counter 3 by a decoder 7, any one of the signals 32 and 33 is sent out. When the input of quick-acting keys such as space key, etc., is made, automatic repeating is practised after a short waiting time determined by sending out the signal 32 to eliminate uncomfortable feeling of waiting. Also, when input of slow-acting key such as carriage return, etc., is made, the signal 33 is sent out, and automatic repeating is practised after a long waiting time determined to prevent unnecessary repeating actions.
