PURPOSE:To reduce an amt. of silver halide to be used in a photographic emulsion layer by using a specified 2-equiv. magenta coupler made of a pyrazolone deriv. as a magenta dye-forming coupler. CONSTITUTION:An intended silver halide photosensitive material can be obtained by incorporating, in a photographic constituent layer formed on a support, a magenta coupler, such as formulae II and III, represented by general formula I in which Ar is aryl; R1 is acylamino, anilino, or ureido; R2, R3 are each alkyl or aryl; R4 is halogen, alkyl, or the like; and (m) is 0-4. Said compd. can be synthesized by dibrominating the 4-position of the pyrazolone coupler and reacting it with mercaptan in an amt. of about 3mol per mol of the pyrazolone or the like method. Said coupler is used usually in an amt. of 0.007-0.7mol per mol of silver halide. |
