PURPOSE:To provide a separation agent suitable especially for the separation of optical isomers, and having high utilization value in the field of pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, etc., by supporting an optically active polyamide having a polymerization degree of within a specific range to a carrier. CONSTITUTION:An optically active polyamide having a polymerization degree of 1-1,000,000, preferably 2-100,000 and derived from an optically active diester such as tartaric acid ester and a diamine such as ethylenediamine, p-phenylenediamine, etc., is supported on a carrier (preferably a porous organic carrier composed of polystyrene, polyacrylamide, polyacrylate, etc.) to obtain the objective separation agent. In the case of separating a compound by the separation agent, it is preferable to carry out the separation by chromatography, especially, liquid chromatography, thin-layer chromatography or gas chromatography.
