A long-flexible article, such as a slide fastener stringer, is advanced incrementally by a pair of grippers that engage the article at laterally spaced portions of its leading end, and reciprocate along the rails to advance the article and then release it. The grippers are located on the top and bottom of the slide member to grip the article from above and below, and are actuated by levers, which are themselves actuated by cams.
