PURPOSE:To obtain the titled coated material having excellent appearance and flex resistance and extremely high barrier properties, by applying a specified vinylidene chloride copolymer latex to a substrate and heat-treating it. CONSTITUTION:A substrate such as a molding, a sheet or a film composed of a plastic, regenerated cellulose and/or paper is coated directly with a copolymer latex obtd. by copolymerizing 91-96wt% vinylidene chloride, 9-4wt% methacrylonitrile and/or methyl methacrylate and optionally not more than 1wt% (meth) acrylic acid. Alternatively, said substrate is coated with a primer and then with said copolymer latex. The coated substrate is dried and heat-treated at a temp. higher than a temp. obtd. by subtracting 10 deg.C from the melt peak temp. of the copolymer measured by a differential calorimeter, but not higher than a temp. T deg.C represented by the formula (wherein t is heat-treating time in sec).
