PURPOSE:To produce the titled resin of an excellent absorption rate of a lower alcohol, by crosslinking a water-containing amphoteric resin having both carboxyl and tert. amino groups and having a specified moisture content. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous monomer solution containing 20-80mol% carboxyl group-containing vinyl monomer, e.g., (meth)acrylic acid, and 80-20mol% tert. amino group-containng vinyl monomer, e.g., dimethylaminoethyl (meth)-acrylate, is suspended by dispersion in a hydrophobic liquid and subjected to W/O reversed phase suspension polymerization. The product is separated from water to obtain a water-containing amphoteric resin containing both carboxyl and tert. amino groups and having a moisture content of 10-35wt%. This resin is crosslinked by mixing with 0.01-5wt% crosslinking agent having at least two functional groups reactive with the carboxyl or the tert, amino group (e.g., ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether).
