PURPOSE:To provide a fuel suitable for pipe line transport and excellent in storage and transport stabilities, prepd. by adding to a coal/alcohol slurry a polymer which contains sulfonated unsatd. aromatic compd. as a structural unit. CONSTITUTION:The fuel is prepd. by adding 0.005-3wt% at least one acid (or salt thereof) consisting of a polymer which contains, as monomer unit, 30wt% or higher sulfonated aromatic compd. with reactive C=C unsatd. bond and has a number-average M.W. of 800-50,000, to a slurry consisting mainly of a mixt. of powdered coal and alcohol. Preferred reactive C=C unsatd. bond-contg. aromatic compds. are styrene, alpha-methylstyrene, vinylnaphthalene, coumarone and indene.
