<p>A clamping device is disclosed for clamping a component, such as a table leg, inserted in a socket, for example, in a table frame or table top. A casing of deformable material such as plastic is arranged at the end of the table leg and has a V-shaped recess open towards the end of the component. A wedge is inserted in the recess with its longitudinal direction parallel to the end surface of the component. A threaded hole in the wedge receives a screw, which is inserted in a hole extending through the casing. The head of a screw abuts a contact surface in the casing so that when the screw is tightened the wedge is pressed down into the recess and displaces surrounding parts located around the recess at right angles towards the walls of the socket in the longitudinal direction. The threaded hole through the wedge and the hole through the housing lie at an angle to the longitudinal direction of the wedge, so that when the screw is tightened the wedge is simultaneously displaced in its longitudinal direction with one of its ends pressing against the wall of the socket.</p> |
