<p>INVENTOR: JACQUES MEIER INVENTION: APPARATUS FOR TRANSPORTING FLAT PRODUCTS, ESPECIALLY PRINTED PRODUCTS ARRIVING IN AN IMBRICATED FORMATION Printed products arriving in an imbricated product formation are fed to a transport device by means of a belt conveyor. The conveying direction of the belt conveyor forms an acute angle with the transport direction of the transport device. The transporting rate or velocity of the belt conveyor is greater than the transporting rate or velocity by the transport device. As seen in the direction of product transport, the transport device comprises gripper units spaced behind one another and mounted upon a chain. Each gripper unit comprises a stationary clamping jaw and a pivotable clamping jaw. The gripper mouth formed by the gripper unit is open towards the rear as seen in the transport direction and is forwardly bounded by a plate-shaped stop. The latter extends at right angles with respect to the transport direction of the transport device. To open each gripper unit, the pivotable clamping jaw is pivoted against the action of a closing spring by means of a cam structure or the like. The printed products are supplied by the belt conveyor at a greater velocity and catch up with the gripper units. The printed products are pushed into the open gripper mouth until abutting the stop. The stop aligns the printed products at the region of their leading edges. At the region of their trailing edges, the printed products remain under the conveying action of the belt conveyor at least until the gripper units are closed, preferably, however, for still a longer period of time. After the printed products have been released from the belt conveyor the trailing edges thereof also can assume the aligned position.</p> |
