PURPOSE:To achieve a smaller size and lighter weight of the upper unit by building up an image former with a lower unit and the upper unit free to open or close thereto with the almost center of the equipment body as the rotary fulcrum. CONSTITUTION:The body 1 of this apparatus is divided into three sections, a lower cover 1a, the rear 1b of an upper cover and the front 1c thereof while an image forming section 3 provided on the side of the control panel in the body 1 is divided into two sections, a lower frame side assembly 55 and an upper frame side assembly 56. Then, a lower unit 57 and a upper unit 58 free to open or close to the lower unit 57 with the almost center of the body 1 as the rotary fulcrum are arranged. This enables the approaching and separating action thereof in an easy and safe manner with a lighter weight of the upper unit while achieving a smaller size and a ligher weight of the apparatus associated with the simplification or the like of the support construction.
