METHOD FOR FORESEEING BREAKOUT IN CONTINUOUS CASTING

PURPOSE:To foresee generation of breakout with good accuracy by measuring the temp. distribution in the transverse direction of a billet right under the casting mold of a continuous casting line and comparing said distribution with a set temp. CONSTITUTION:The temp. distribution in the transverse direction of a billet in the normal time right under a casting mold 2 is preliminarily determined and is inputted to a signal processing unit 4. The temp. distribution in the transverse direction of the billet right under the mold 2 during operation is measured by a surface temp. detector 1 and is compared with the inputted temp. distribution in the normal time. The change which is the fall or rise of the surface temp. in the corner part of the billet or the repetition thereof, the abnormality which is the excessive temp. rise in a very small range and succeeding spread of the high temp. range or the succeeding rise of the temp. peak point or the abnormality in the change of the temp. distribution with time is detected by such comparison. The processed signal of the unit 4 is outputted to a monitor 7 and an alarm 8. The generation of breakout in continuous casting is foreseen with good accuracy by the above-mentioned method.
