PURPOSE:To easily detect the disconnection of a strand of a multicore superconductor, by supplying a heat flow from one end of the strand and measuring the heat flow transmitted to the other end. CONSTITUTION:After copper or copper alloy around strands 2, 3, and 4 of a superconductor 1 is removed by dissolving with nitric acid, the strands 2, 3, and 4 are fixed with a resin 6 having an inferior heat transferring property. Then a heat flow is supplied to the strand group 7 from one end 7a by means of a light source and a semiconductor element array 8 which converts heat into lights in contacted with the other end 7b of the strand group 7. Since the temperature at the end 7b is different between strands not disconnected and those disconnected, the output of each element of the semiconductor element array 8 contacting with each strand is observed through a CRT and the number of dark spots are counted. Thus the number of disconnected strands can be detected accurately.
