PURPOSE:To obtain a color image having a high color forming rate and max. coloring density and excellent fastness by using a novel blocked coupler for forming a magenta color. CONSTITUTION:The blocked coupler for forming a magenta dye expressed by the formula I (R is H or substituent, X is H or elimination coupling group, CP is a coupling block group which forms a colorless or alkali soluble compd. by reacting with the oxide of a color forming reagent, A is expressed by the formula IIwhen Cp is bound thereto or by -N= when Cp is not bound thereto, B, E are expressed by the formula II when Cp is bound thereto and by -N= or the formula III when Cp is not bound thereto, D denotes -N= or the formula III, R is the same as mentioned above, a broken line denotes the double bonds that can shift where A, D, E are simultaneously N and Cp is not bound to E when B is C, R and X may form dimer or higher polymers, and the coupler blocked by Cp in which the ring may be formed by the substitutent R on the adjacent C) is incorporated into a green sensitive emulsion layer. The excellent color image is thus obtd.
