PURPOSE:To prevent a combustion apparatus from generating slagging and fouling inside thereof, by causing a reducing reaction on coal and water or steam by burning part of coal, and by cooling produced combustion gas, and then by separating ash content from the combustion gas by coagulation. CONSTITUTION:When coal, water or steam, and air or oxygen are fed into a gasifying furnace 8 from a feed pipe 11, part of coal is burned with air and a reducing reaction is caused. Then under the reducing atmosphere in the furnance 8, water or steam fed into the furnace together with coal acts on a reducing reaction. The combustion gas produced by a reducing reaction contains some ash content in the melted state, which has been contained in the coal from the beginning. Then the combustion gas is led into a gas cooler 9, where the temperature in the reducing gas is lowered, and the melted ash content in the reducing gas is solidified and is separated from the reducing gas. The coagulated ash content is discharged from a separator which is provided at the bottom of a gas cooler 9, passing through a discharge pipe 12. With such an arrangement, the gas which contains little ash content can be burned in a combustion apparatus, so that slagging and fouling will be prevented, in addition, the rate of nitric oxide in the combustion gas can be decreased.
