PURPOSE:To resolve the titled compound optically and easily with high efficiency, by seeding a supersaturated solution of (+ or -)-1-(4-isopropylphenyl)ethylamine cinnamate or the above-mentioned salt of either one of optically active isomers in excess with a seed crystal. CONSTITUTION:A supersaturated solution of (+ or -)-1-(4-isopropylphenyl)ethylamine cinnamate is seeded with crystals of either one of optically active (+ or -)-1-(4-isopropylphenyl)ethylamine cinnamate to crystallize preferentially the optically active salt of the same kind or a supersaturated solution containing either one antipode of (+ or -)-1-(4-isopropylphenyl)ethylamine cinnamate in excess is seeded with preferably optically active salt of the same kind to give the aimed optically active salt, which is then separated. Alternatively, natural crystallization is carried out without seeding of the optically active salt if the degree of excess is large. USE:A purely synthetic basic optical resolving agent.
