PURPOSE:To reduce the corrosion of a turbine and to increase the recovery of steam by heat-exchanging the combustion gas from a pressurized sulfur burning furnace after working the turbine with compressed air from a compressor, and then introducing the gas into a dilution air line. CONSTITUTION:The compressed air which is heated to high temp. through a compressor 10 and a heat exchanger 14 and the molten sulfur whose amt. is reduced in accordance with said treatment are sent into a pressurized sulfur burning furnace 11 and burned to obtain a low-concn. SO2-contg. gas having about 2% SO2 concn. which is introduced into a turbine 12 to work the turbine. Then said gas is heat-exchanged with said compressed air in the heat exchanger 14, and heated to >= about 300 deg.C. Then the SO2-contg. gas is introduced into a dilution air line 9, and mixed with an SO2-contg. gas from an ordinary-pressure sulfur burning furnace 1 which is introduced into a waste heat boiler 2 to recover steam and to lower the temp. of gas. The mixed gas is introduced into a converter 4, and steam is recovered by a superheater 5. The SO2 is converted into SO3 which is absorbed by H2SO4 in an absorption tower 7 to obtain the product sulfuric acid.
