PURPOSE:The reaction of a beta-halogenoalanine with an alkali metal diselenide enables high-yield production of the titled compound which is used as a starting selenide and as a remedy for selenium deficiency with reduced process stages. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution of beta-halogenoalanine or formula I (X is halogen) is allowed to react with an alkali metal diselenide such aa sodium diselenide obtained from elementary seleniu and sodium borohydride, potassium diselenide or lithium diselenide to give the objective compound of formula II. The process according to the present invention gives the objective without processes for group protection and deprotection.
