PURPOSE:To prevent trouble due to a generated gas, in electrolyzing an aqueous alkali chloride solution, by using an ion exchange membrane with a specific structure to keep the tank voltage of an electrolytic tank low. CONSTITUTION:In preparing NaOH and chlorine gas by electrolyzing an aqueous NaCl solution in an electrolytic tank using an ion exchange membrane, an ion exchange membrane electrolytic tank in which electrodes are arranged through a gas having no electrode activity formed in the ion exchange membrane and a liquid permeable porous layer is used. The ion exchange membrane comprises a fluorine containing cation exchange membrane having a carboxylic acid group and a sulphonic acid group and said porous layer is formed by printing and depositing under pressure a paste like substance containing a specific metal or a metal compound by screen printing. As the electrode layer, one with an average fine pore size of 0.01- 50mu, porosity of 30-99%, a thickness of 1-500mu is used and, as a screen used in the screen printing, one with a mesh of 10-2,400 mesh and a gauze thickness of 2mm.-4mu is used. |
