PURPOSE:To constitute a communication system with general-purpose performance independently of the function of a facsimile terminal equipment by providing a converting section converting a facsimile picture signal made of code data into a conventional facsimile picture signal in a center device storing the fascimile picture signal. CONSTITUTION:A line to which a network control section 7 of a communication controller 3 is connected is called from a telephone set 9, and a code type of a transmission signal and distribution destination information re added onto an option facsimile information field (FIF) of a facsimile signal from a facsimile terminal device 10 possible for data transmission and the result is given to a central processing unit 1 via a facsimile signal control section 5 of the communication controller 3. When a signal is transmitted from the central processing unit 1 to a conventional facsimile equipment 12, after a code data is converted into a picture data through a data converting section 4 by the facsimile signal control section 5 and transmitted to the facsimile terminal equipment 12.
