PURPOSE:To perform the release of a filter cake more easily and perfectly, by allowing compressed air in a filter body to instantaneously pass a filter cake layer and to discharge therefrom the levitate the filter cake from the surface of the filter body before imparting vibration or shock to the filter body. CONSTITUTION:After filtering is finished, a non-filtered liquid is discharged from a residual liquid drain pie 7 and, after a filter tank 7 is hermetically closed, said tank 7 is preliminarily pressurized by compressed air and an air vent valve 8 is opened to open the pressure in the filter tank 7 to atmospheric pressure at a stroke. Air in a filter body 14, a flexible pipe 11 and a filtrate pipe 6 is abruptly expanded so as to levitate a filter cake 5 from the surface of the filter body 14. The filter cake levitated from the surface of the filter body 14 is released by imparting vibration or shock to the filter body 14 by the abrupt air stream from the inside.
