The lying surface of a pivoting bed can be pivoted about a horizontal axis of rotation by means of an electric drive via a cable pull. To simplify the construction of the pivoting bed, the cable pull is guided over a loose and fixed roller and a rocker lever is provided for pivoting the lying surface, one lever arm of said rocker lever bearing the loose roller and the other lever arm engaging on the underside of the lying surface.
