The hand or parking brake device has a handbrake valve device (54), which has an actuating element (15) lockable in the parking brake device by means of a locking element. Only when the locking element is completely engaged does an electrical switch device (23) open, which is connected, in series to a door contact switch (51), in an energising circuit for a signal transmitter (27, 41). The door contact switch (51) closes only when the vehicle doors are opened. If the vehicle door is opened, for example for the vehicle driver to get out, when the handbrake valve device (54) is not completely locked in the parking brake position, a warning signal is emitted indicating the incorrect adjustment of the handbrake valve device.
