PURPOSE:To prevent ink overflowing from a waste ink reservior by providing a contactor which detects a change in the volume of an ink absorber in a waste ink reservior and controlling an ink discharge into the waste ink reservior with a pump according to detection results. CONSTITUTION:A driving pump which discharges ink from a subtank in an ink jet head to a waste ink reservior 10 is provided, and contactors 12a, 12b which detects a change in the volume of an ink absorber 11 are installed in the waste ink reservior 10. Then signal lines l1, l2 are connected to a pump control circuit through a central processing unit CPU. CPU monitors a continuity between the contactors 12a, 12b and commands ''discharge recovery action'' to the pump when the quantity of ink in the waste ink reservior 10 is scarce and stops the discharge action of the pump, if the waste ink reservior 10 is filled. Thus it is possible to prevent ink overflowing from the waste ink reservior and eliminate a fouling of the unit interior or a damage on the electric circuit. |
