PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF FERROCHROMIUM

A process for producing ferrochromium from iron-containing chromium ores is described, in which the reduction of the ore, which is mixed with coal and slag formers, is carried out in a rotary kiln at 1480 to 1580 DEG C in the presence of a CO-containing atmosphere for 20 to 240 minutes and in which the smelting is carried out in a melting furnace at 1600 to 1700 DEG C. In the process, the major part of the gangue off the ore can be separated off before the smelting of the reduced ore.
