PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound useful as an epoxy resin hardener, etc., in high yield, by reacting an aromatic dihalogen compound with an alkali metal salt of p-aminothiophenol. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula II can be produced by reacting an aromatic dihalogen compound of formula I (X is 1-20C bivalent hydrocarbon group, -O-, -S-, etc.; a is 0 or 1, when a=0, both aromatic rings are bonded directly with each other; Y is 1-20C alkyl, etc.; b and c are 0-4; Z is halogen selected from F, Cl, Br and I) (selected from a variety of compounds) with an alkali metal salt of p-aminothiophenol in an aprotic polar solvent in nitrogen atmosphere at 120-220 deg.C for 30min-20hr. EFFECT:Various novel aromatic diamine compounds can be produced by the method of the present invention.
