PURPOSE:To prevent erroneous detection irrespective of different kinds of papers, in a device having a plurality of paper feed modes and provided with a means for detecting an overlapping transfer of fed papers, by controlling the above-mentioned detecting means in the case of that the paper feed modes are changed. CONSTITUTION:When papers are manually fed, a switch 102 is turned on so that a control section 101 delivers a signal to a transistor 110 through a buffer 112 to turn on a clutch 108. Then, a paper feed roller 8 is rotated so that a paper 2b inserted through a manual insertion tray 7 is taken into the device, and simultaneously, a switch 104 is turned to the terminal 104b side so that a low level signal is delivered to an A/D converter 103 through a buffer 105. This signal is equal to a signal which is delivered from a light receiving section 9b when a substantial part of light from a light emitting section 9a reaches the light receiving section 9b. Accordingly, even if a paper 2b, is thicker than, for example, a normal paper, the control section 101 determines this paper as a normal paper, thereby no erroneous detection may be made. |
