VERTICAL WELDING METHOD WITH ROTATING ARC ACCOMPANYING OSCILLATION

PURPOSE:To execute satisfactorily vertical welding without defects in vertical welding in which a consumable electrode swivels and oscillates by correcting the difference in he integrated value of an arc voltage or current for each half period in the sheet metal thickness direction to a reference value and correcting the center of oscillation in such a way that the waveforms for each half period in the groove direction are made equal. CONSTITUTION:A consumable arc electrode 6 swivels around the central axis A of a nozzle 7 so as to oscillate between copper backing strips 4 and 5 in the sheet metal thickness direction. The center of the oscillation in the sheet metal thickness direction is corrected by the signals from detectors 9, 14 in such a way that the difference in the integrated value of the voltage or current value for every half period when the electrode 6 swivels in the directions of the strips 4 and 5 by each period of oscillation attains a reference value. The center A of the nozzle 7 is corrected by the detector 9 in such a way that the waveforms for each half period when the electrode swivels in the groove 1 direction of base metals 2, 3 are made equal. The base metals are satisfactorily welded without defects by such correction.
