A layer of predetermined thickness of the liquid is deposited on a supply roller having a tangential speed relatively slower than that of the inking roller. The supply roller supplies liquid over a contact area of the contacting rollers and the liquid product is transferred and spread into a thinner layer on the inking roller, either directly or indirectly.
