PURPOSE:To detect double feed securely while increasing the turning displacement of a double feed detection plate by detecting whether the double feed is caused or not as the turning displacement. CONSTITUTION:When two cards 2 and 2 are fed together in a card feed passage 1, the two cards 2 are inserted into the gap between an idle roller 6 and the arcuate part 13C of the detection plate 13 at the same time. Consequently, the frictional force between the idle roller 6 and arcuate part 13C increases and the detection plate 13 turns against return spring force. Thus, the detection plate 13 turns and then a sectorial plate part 13B als turns A sensor operation part 13G enters the U-shaped groove 19B of a sensor 19 to shield a photodetecting element 19D from light from a light emitting element 19C. Consequently, the sensor 19 outputs a double feed detection signal.
