The prepn. of thiophenol comprises reacting a halogenated aromatic cpd. with hydrogen sulfide in the presence of hydrogen or a hydrogen source. Pref. the reaction takes place at 400-600≦̸C and the temp. is increased gradually or stepwise as the total conversion decreases. A catalyst may be used. Thiophenols are used as lubricant additives, intermediates, insecticides, fungicides and parasiticides, and in the prodn. of synthetic resins, rubber, vulcanization accelerators, etc. |
