795,333. Mandrels. SKF KUGELLAGER- 'FABRIKEN GES. June 22, 1956 [June 24, 1955], No. 19471/56. Class 83 (3). An expanding mandrel for supporting and driving work 24 comprises a shank 1 carrying a sleeve 11, 21 movable along the shank by a lever 31 to operate the work-gripping jaws 29, a spring 12 biasing the sleeve in the workgripping direction and providing the gripping- pressure. The wedge-shaped jaws 29, in slots in the end of the outer sleeve 21, are held against the operating-cone 3 of the shank 1 by elastic-rings 30 in grooves in the periphery of the sleeve and in the jaws. An adjustable stop-ring 23 for the work is secured on the sleeve by a screw 25 passing through a slot 26 in the sleeve to engage a shoe 27 in an axialslot 28 in the shank. The outer sleeve 21, replaceable by others to suit the bore of the work, is connected by a nut 22 to the innersleeve 11, which is slotted at 16 to receive a driving-pin 15 in the shank. The spring 12 acts between the sleeve 11 and abutmentrings 13, 14 on the shank of the mandrel, which has a Morse-taper driving-shank 2. The operating-lever 31, pivoted on a pin 32 in a housing 9 held against rotation by co-operation between the lever and a fixed part of the machine, is connected to a forked-member 33 engaging slots 36 in a housing 19, by which the sleeves are moved, the housing surrounding a bearing 17 located against a shoulder on the sleeve 11 by a ring 18. The housing is supported on the shank by a bearing 4 and closed by an annular cover 39. Work may be removed from the mandrel while the latter is rotating. |
