PURPOSE:To immediately suspend the electricity feeding to a wire by installing a power source and the conductive detection pieces arranged along a guide passage for a wire in a wire disconnection detecting apparatus and electrically detecting the disconnection of the wire by a detection circuit. CONSTITUTION:When an electrode wire 7 is disconnected during electrical discharge work on a wire-cut electrical discharge machine, the wire 7 is released from tension state and is attached onto detection pieces 21 and 22, and an electrical current flows into a detection circuit 25 from a power source circuit 13, and a photodiode 23 emits light. Then, a phototransistor 28 is operated through an optical fiber cable 29, and electricity feeding from the power source circuit 13 is cut-off by the control of an operation control circuit 26, and electrical discharge machining is suspended. Thus, the disconnection of the electrode wire 7 during electrical discharge machining is correctly detected, and the electrical discharge machining operation can be immediately suspended. |
