PURPOSE:To regulate a gap and strongly fix both bases by inserting a modified polyolefin powder or its mixture with a conventionally used inorg. powder into two electrode plates constituting a liquid crystal display cell, and bonding them with heat and pressure. CONSTITUTION:A modified polyolefin powder alone can be used for the spacer of liquid crystals, but in many cases, it is used in combination with conventional inorg. powder, such as glass fiber powder or ceramic powder, or a spacer using as a base, a resin, such as a cross-linked polystyrene, a phenolic resin, and an epoxy resin, higher in m.p. than said modified polyolefin resin. In any case, the modified polyolefin particles are bonded by heating them to their m.p. or higher between 2 electrode plates, and pressing them in a molten state. Therefore, it is preferred to use the particles a little larger than the predetermined gap of 5- 15mum between both electrodes. |
