The lift cage (2) works in a shaft (1) and has a lowermost position which leaves insufficient room below it from the point of view of safety. A controller (4) moves a support (3) between an active position (5) where it works with the cage so as to maintain sufficient space bellow it, and an inactive position (6) allowing downwards movement to the lowermost position. Operation of the controller is achieved by the normal controls inside the cage and outside the shaft. The controller, the support, or the intermediate components actuate a limit switch in the inactive position, so as to operate the lift drive mechanism. A detector is also provided to detect anyone attempting to enter the shaft outside the cage, and cuts out the control system. |
