PURPOSE:To produce single crystal having good crystallinity, by insulating the heat of the bottom and side of a part carrying a seed crystal in a boat in producing an inorganic compound single crystal consisting of elements of Groups IIIb and Vb in the periodic table by the boat growth method. CONSTITUTION:A single crystal of an inorganic compound is produced from elements of Groups IIIb and Vb in the periodic table by the boat growth method. In the process, the heat of the bottom and side of a part 2 carrying a seed crystal in a boat 1 for growing the single crystal is insulated. A block 5 consisting of a bad heat conductor, e.g. quartz, PBN, Al2O3 or Si3N4, in used for the heat insulation. The block 5 is provided with a groove 6 of cross-sectional shape similar to that of the part 2 carrying the seed crystal and a recessed part 7 covering a tilting part 4 of the boat 1 to form a shape covering the bottom and both sides of the part 2 carrying the seed crystal. |
