PURPOSE:To sufficiently generate the gas absorbing reaction while providing the high capacity by computing the space volume of the pole plate groups housed in the battery jar in an enclosed type lead storage battery while making the pole plate groups to impregnate and maintain the amount of an electrolyte in the range specific time of said volume. CONSTITUTION:The space volume C of the pole plate groups housed inside the battery jar 1 of an enclosed type lead storage battery is computed from C= PpXVp+PnXVn+PmXVm, provided that Pp is the porosity of the positive pole plates, Vp is the volume of the positive pole plates, Pn is the porosity of the negative pole plates, Vn is the volume of the negative pole plates, Pm is the porosity of an electrolyte-impregnated mat and Vm is the volume of said mat. Then, the amount of the electrolyte in the range of 0.9-1.0 times of said value is impregnated and maintained by the pole plate groups. Accordingly, by regulating the amount of the electrolyte, a drop of the capacity does not accompany while the generated gas when overcharging can be sufficiently absorbed thus heightening the capacity of the battery. |
