<p>Apparatus for electrically controlling the application and release of aircraft brakes including a brake pressure plate (196) in communication with a brake disk stack (192, 194) and a ball-screw apparatus (210) interposed between the pressure plate (196) and a plurality of torque motors (200) to effect compression of the disk stack, the ball-screw apparatus (210) characterized by: a relatively stationary member (212), an axially movable ram member (220), a relatively and axially rotatable member (230) mounted coaxially between the stationary and ram members (212, 220), and a plurality of balls (260) within helical grooves (226,242) in the ram and rotatable members (220,230) respectively such that upon actuation of the torque motors (200) the member (230) is driven into rotation and the ram member (220) is moved axially into forceful engagement with the pressure plate (196) and braking action is effected by a compression of the disk brake stack.</p> |
