PURPOSE:To obtain a wet friction material having excellent heat resistance, low modulus of elasticity, and a suitable porosity, by impregnating a felted heat-resistant fiber material with a resin binder and curing the resin by heating under pressure. CONSTITUTION:A felted heat-resistant fiber (e.g., carbon fiber) material 2b impregnated with a resin binder (e.g., acrylic rubber), a core plate 1, and a felted heat-resistant fiber material 2a impregnated with a resin binder are laid upon a flat end plate 3b. A ring plated 3a is place on the felted fiber material 2b and fastening members 4a and 4b are placed on the top of the plate 3a so as to form crossed bridges. The assemblage is fastened by bolting through coil springs 5a- 5d ao that the fastening pressure may be about 0.1kg/cm<2>, and heated for curing the resin to obtain a wet friction material having a compressibility of 5-20kg/ cm<2> and a porosity of 20-70%.
