PURPOSE:The titled composition having a water-absorptive layer which is free of possibility of separation from its base when dried or swelled by absorbing wa ter, made by dispersing powders of a water-absorptive resin and of a water-soluble resin in a solution of a specified ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid copolymer. CONSTITUTION:40-100pts.wt. polyhydric alcohol ester of an ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid (e.g. hydroxyethyl acrylate), 0.1-10pts.wt. ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid (e.g. acrylic acid), and 0-50pts.wt. alkyl and/or vinyl ester of an ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid (e.g. methyl acrylate) are copolymerized to give a copolymer (A) having a molecular weight of at least 10,000. Then, 5-200pts.wt. powder of a water-absorptive resin (B) (e.g. a saponified, graft starch-acrylonitrile copolymer), and 0-20pts.wt. powder of a water-soluble resin (C) (e.g. PVA) are dispersed in a solution containing 20-100pts.wt. copolymer A to obtain the titled composition.
