PURPOSE:To shorten the preparatory operation time for a stop and a reoperation by positioning an electrolyte tank provided connecting to the lower part of the electrolyte chamber in the specific relation to the air chamber while connecting it to the air chamber through a switching valve. CONSTITUTION:The fuel cell proper 12 is formed of the negative pole 13, a fuel liquid chamber 14, an electrolyte chamber 15, a separating film 16, a porous positive pole 17 and an air chamber 18. Further, an electrolyte tank 20 is arranged in the lower part of the cell proper 12 in the relation, in which the tank wall face 20a does not project from the face of the positive pole 17 when a cell case 11 is rotated by 90 deg., while connecting the air chamber 18 to the tank 20 through a connecting passage 21 provided with a switching valve 22. Then, when stopping operation, the cell case 11 is rotated by 90 deg. while inserting the positive pole 17 into the air chamber 18 in order to flow the electrolyte leaked from the electrolyte chamber 15 into the tank 20 through the connection passage 21. Accodingly, the leaking electrolyte is discharged with simple operation thus enabling reoperation. |
