PURPOSE:To make it possible to measure the content of oxygen in metal-containing waste gas with good accuracy without shortening the life of a measuring cell, in an electrochemical measuring cell for measuring oxygen, by coating a measuring electrode with a porous layer containing CoCr2O4. CONSTITUTION:A first layer 14 acting as a measuring electrode is provided to the outer periphery of a tubular solid electrode 10 comprising an oxygen ion conductive substance such as zirconium oxide stabilized by calcium oxide and a second layer 20 acting as a reference electrode is provided to the inner periphery thereof. In addition, a third catalytically active porous layer 18 containing a substance represented by formula CoCr2O4 is formed onto the first layer 14 in a thickness of at least 50mum to constitute an electrochemical measuring cell especially used for measuring the content of oxygen in the waste gas of an internal combustion engine or a furnace. When this measuring cell is contacted with gas to be measured, voltage proportional to the oxygen partial pressure of the gas to be measured is generated and, therefore, the content of oxygen can be calculated from said voltage.
