The apparatus consists of an element, attached to a winch or cable, for the suspension of a pull bar and of two encircling arms. The assembly is connected by a dual control system. The apparatus having been presented to the casualty, the latter pulls the encircling arms into position and this position causes the arms to tighten, thus imprisoning the casualty. The casualty can let go and be simply hauled to safety. <IMAGE>
