The setting tool (1) for an expansion anchor (2) with expansion sleeve (21) and expansion body (22) has a location shank (5) and a striking dolly (8). A locking means (11) which can be brought into engagement with the striking dolly (8) is provided in the location shank (5). When the expansion anchor (2) is inserted into a location bore (3), the locking means (11) prevents advance of the striking dolly (8) and thus premature expansion. <IMAGE>
