In a knock-away device on a punching machine for can lids with a tool carrier (5) moved relative to a tool counterpart (2), comprising a knock-away tip (21) which is mounted on a knock-away lever (15) and the movement of which is controlled in such a way by an actuating part (11, 12, 18), moved with the tool carrier (5), in interaction with a fixed part (20) that, as the tool carrier (5) is moved upwards by the tool counterpart (2), the knock-away tip (21) moves directly under the tool (3) of the tool carrier (5) and that, during the downward movement of the tool carrier (5), the knock-away tip (21) swivels out of the region of the tool (3), approximately radially to the tool axis (7), troublesome vibrations can be avoided and high work rates can be achieved if the knock-away lever (15) forms a coupler of a four-bar linkage (13, 14, 16, 17), mounted at the two swivel joints (16, 17) of which links (11, 12) connected in articulated fashion to the tool carrier (5) are mounted, and if attached in articulated fashion to one radially outer end of the knock-away lever (15) is a rocker (18) attached in an articulated fashion at its other end to a point (19) fixed in relation to the movement of the tool carrier (5). <IMAGE>
