Method and apparatus for welding wound cores, and wound cores of amorphous tapes

A method is specified for welding a wound core comprising an amorphous tape. A pair of electrodes is brought into contact with the surface of the outside end region of the tape and an electrical pulse is applied to the pair of electrodes in order to melt instantaneously the upper, outer end region and the tape layer below it and in so doing to weld them together. As, unlike a conventional welding method with a clamping device, this method does not entail the exertion of a substantial degree of pressure onto the tape surface, the magnetic properties of the amorphous wound cores are not impaired when a welding method of this type is used. <IMAGE>
